Sumisip is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Basilan. It has an aggregate territorial jurisdiction of 567.60 aq.km. (56,760 hectares) and with agricultural land area of 31,769.50 hectares planted with rubber, coconut, coffee, black pepper, cacao, bananas, to name a few.

Sumisip is also one of the leading rubber producers in Basilan.

According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 51,712 people in 8,698 households.

Sumisip is politically subdivided into 41 barangays.

The place has a naturally mild climate.
