Mapun is a remote municipality in the province of Tawi-Tawi.

According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 22,011 people in 3,492 households.

Mapun is politically subdivided into 15 barangays.

The place has two seasons: dry and wet The climate is generally moderate. The wettest months are from August to November. The other months of the year are generally dry with occasional rain showers.
