Sallapadan is a 5th class municipality in the province of Abra. Land Area is 89.0200 km2., with 35.48 kms from Bangued.

According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 5,497 people in 1,075 households.

Sallapadan is politically subdivided into 9 barangays.

Sal-lapadan was the first Tinguian settlement organized under the American regime in the highlands of Abra. The municipality got its name from the barrio where the seat of government originally was. The original inhabitants named their settlement "Sahipa-chan," the name of a wild bush which was predominant at the time in the area.

The place climate is characterized by 2 distinct seasons. The dry season, which occurs from November to April, is marked by daily blue skies and clear starry nights and the wet season for the rest of the year with high rainfall intensities accompanied by storms and typhoons.
