Bakun is a 4th class municipality in the province of Benguet. It is located 336 kms. away from Manila and 86 kms. away from Baguio City and is known in the
Province of Benguet as the land of eternal springs and the home of the famed pagan god "Kabunian".
Bakun is bounded on the north by the municipality of Cervantes, Ilocos Sur and the municipality of Mankayan, on the east by the municipalities of Buguias and
Mankayan, and on the west by the municipalities of Sugpon and Alilem of the province of Ilocos Sur and on the south by the municipality of Kibungan.
According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 12,213 people in 2,346 households.
Bakun is politically subdivided into 7 barangays.

The climate is temperate with two pronounced seasons. The wet season starts in the month of May and ends in October. The wettest part of the year is July and
August. Dry season starts in November and ends in May.
