Kapangan is a 5th class municipality in the province of Benguet. It is located at the western portion of the province of Benguet. Kapangan is bounded by the municipality of Kibungan on the north, Atok on the east, La Union on the west and the municipality of Tublay and Sablan on the south. The total land area of Kapangan is estimated to be 17,327 hectares and is about 29 kilometers away from the capital town of La Trinidad.

The municipal's terrain is characterized by rugged mountains and hills with the highest elevation of about 1,700 meters above sea level and lowest elevation of 200 meters above sea level.

Kapangan is 35 kilometers from the city of Baguio. It is accessible via air and land transportation. The common means of transportation are jeeps and buses.

According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 18,137 people in 3,371 households.

Kapangan is politically subdivided into 15 barangays.

Tourist Spots:

1. Camp Utopia - Located at barangay Sagubo about 43 kilometers from the city proper. Camp Utopia was the camp of the 66th Infantry during the second world war. This is the place where the guerrillas plan their strategies to combat enemies. The plateaus overlooks the Ilocos coastal waters and is one of the special wonders of this place. A visit to Camp Utopia take 1-2 hours walk from the provincial road of the municipality.

2. Mount Dakiwagan View - The mountain is nestled in the northern side of Camp Utopia. It is shaped like the face of Santa Claus, resting its head on the face like solid rock. The residents are quite fearful though that the mountain might lost its magic if frequently visited by tuorists.

3. Amburayan River - located near the road of Kapangan to Kibungan at the middle of barangay Taba-ao and Cuba. The river flows to Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. It supplies local fish to communities living near the river banks and is also the source of irrigation of farm lands of the barangays adjacent to the river. It used to be a picnic and fishing spot for local Baguio residents.

4. Camp Sangrills, Daraw Ancient Ruins of Civilization, Caliwaga Cave, Tinongchol Burial Cave, Balakbak Rice Terraces, Gaswiling Mountain Top View, Minehaha Waterfalls, Longog Cave and Bolinsex Cave Balacbac, Catampan-Beleng Rice Terraces

Climate is divide into to seasons - the wet and the dry. Wet season occurs from the months of May to October while dry season occurs November to April.
